The mission of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is to provide force protection, security, and law enforcement as required for the people, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and for Department of Defense (DoD) activities and DoD leased facilities not under the jurisdiction of a Military Department within the National Capital Region (NCR), This includes addressing the full spectrum of threats to the Pentagon Facilities by utilizing a balanced strategy of prevention, preparedness, detection, response, crisis management, and consequence management. The PFPA is the DoD focal point for coordination with other DoD components, other Executive Departments and Federal agencies, state, and local authorities on matters involving force protection, security, and law enforcement activities that impact the Pentagon Facilities.
Washington Headquarters Services was established as a Department of Defense Field Activity on October 1, 1977, as part of a DoD headquarters streamlining initiative. Approximately 1,200 civilian and military employees as well as contract staff are organized into 12 directorates and offices. WHS personnel contribute to the mission of our Defense customers by managing DoD-wide programs and operations for the Pentagon Reservation and DoD leased facilities in the National Capital Region. WHS is organizationally aligned under the Director of Administration for the Office of the Deputy Chief Management Officer.

PPP PILOT: The Washington Headquarters Service is currently operating under an approved reengineered Priority Placement Program (PPP) pilot for all positions in its serviced workforce.
