This position is located in the National Watch Center (NWC) Branch, Operations Division, Response Directorate. The NWC's mission is to maintain uninterrupted, 24/7 situational awareness of FEMA response capabilities, readiness postures, and all events–natural or man-made–that may require a coordinated federal disaster response. Through a variety of formal presentations and written reports, the NWC provides shared situational understanding aimed at supporting effective decision-making at all levels–from the local emergency manager to the President of the United States. Additionally, the NWC plays a critical role in coordinating the rapid deployment and management of national-level emergency response teams and resources in response to disasters, special events, field operations, and other events as required. The NWC is comprised of teams working on a 24/7 rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

Typical duties include:

As a Geospatial Analyst, the incumbent performs key program implementation of the FEMA geospatial information systems (GIS) initiatives and operations.
Responsible for supporting the NWC and its related functions and GIS initiatives and operations.
Performing activities in support of the NWC in operational areas such as analysis and productions, modeling; data management; innovations, tools development, coordination and dissemination; remote sensing; and coordination and collaboration with agency headquarters and regional components.
Serving as a key resource on highly critical and complex geospatial program initiatives.
Coordinating with appropriate geospatial stakeholders to prevent duplication of effort and to promote information sharing.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
