The mission of IMLS is to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement. We provide leadership through research, policy development, and grant making. IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums.
The incumbent is the Associate Deputy Director, Institute of Museum and Library Services, State Programs Division. Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, IMLS, Office of Library Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing national professional leadership for State Library program planning, training, development, evaluation, and technical assistance to the State Library Administrative Agencies. Primary responsibilities include oversight of the implementation of agency library State grant programs, discretionary grants to the Pacific Territories, and special initiatives as assigned. The incumbent will also play a lead role in interpreting and providing context to data provided by State Libraries through evaluations, surveys and state plans and advise the Deputy Director on these matters. The Associate Deputy participates in general Library Office administration, is responsible for ensuring that financial administration of library grant programs meets the programs' goals, and advises the Deputy Director, OLS, and the Director regarding agency library program policies.
