Duties: This position is located in the Directorate of Public Works. You will alter and repair buildings and structures. Plan and complete the work from initial layout to final assembly or installation. Use accepted carpentry trade methods and techniques. Set up and adjust tools to cut special joint grooves and precise shapes and sizes. Interpret and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and building codes. Perform simple plumbing tasks such as replacing broken valves, pipes, etc. Paint interior and exterior of buildings, park equipment, and facilities. Make electrical repairs by removing, replacing, splicing (including waterproof splicing), soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures. Drive service pickups trucks and vans with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds. Transport personnel, materials, and equipment throughout the installation and on public roads. Load/unload vehicles, assuring hauling capacity is not exceeded. Complete trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records. Perform prescribed minor vehicle preventive maintenance.

Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 80 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, handling heavy equipment, parts, tools and materials, pushing wheelbarrows and running power mowers. Considerable arm movement in plumbing, carpentry work, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, exposed to all weather conditions. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors. Area is frequently inadequately heated and cooled. Subject to possible injury from vehicular accidents, loading and unloading cargo, or from hand end power tools used. Subject to strains and injuries from lifting.
