This is a Full-Time TERM position. Appointment to this/these position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed thirteen months, with possible extensions up to a total of four years without further competition.

Incumbent serves as Museum Technician for Chaco Culture National Historical Park. This position is in the Cultural Resources Division, and the duty station is in the park Museum Collection housed on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The museum collection is primarily archeological and archival. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Museum Curator. Packs and unpacks objects and processes them for storage or display. Performs routine research for catalog records as assigned. Identifies and labels objects by matching documentation, field labels, and field notes with objects. Catalogs identified objects and enters data into Interior Collections Management System (ICMS). Works with museum staff in implementation of museum maintenance and housekeeping schedules as well as integrated pest management plan. Incumbent performs routine cleaning of objects according to established standards. Responds to in-person, phone, and mail inquiries regarding the museum collection and assists NPS staff, visiting museum professionals, and researchers by locating, retrieving and obtaining information on museum collections. The work involves some standing, bending and lifting boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. This work is associated with the actual annual physical arranging, cataloging and inventorying of the collection. Includes long periods (several hours per day) of using a keyboard for data entry. Incumbent may be required to travel to the park (a distance of 150 miles, one-way) periodically for overnight stays to work on specific projects.
AREA INFORMATION: The Museum Collection is a detached park unit housed in Albuquerque (population approximately 700,000) which is an urban area with considerable housing, educational, medical and cultural facilities. The University of New Mexico is located in the center of the city. Recreational opportunities are abundant. Elevation is approximately 5,000'; temperatures range from 20 degrees in winter to 100 degrees in summer. Park housing is not available.

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g. boxes and collection items up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and moved on a frequent basis.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Most of the work is performed in a museum environment of exhibit and storage areas, and offices. Occasional work with materials which are dusty or stored with protective chemicals may require the use of dust masks, gloves, or other protective devices. May occasionally perform field work in adverse weather conditions.
