About the Position:
The position is located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in the Directorate of Healthcare Operations and Strategic Planning, Department of Strategic Communications, Community Relations. The incumbent's primary function is to serve as the Public Affairs Specialist, assisting in formulating command policy and accomplishing publication and information aspects of the public affairs program for the MTF and the Integrated Delivery System (IDS). The incumbent will assists the Department Chief in planning, directing and executing a Command Information program encompassing and using all available media to inform target audiences of the activities, aims, and accomplishments of the MTF to its internal and public audiences.

As Public Affairs Specialist, incumbent will manage aspects of the Command Information, Media Relations and Community Relations programs for the MTF with particular emphasis on maintaining effective relationships with the hospital community. Assist in developing and managing content on the hospital's restricted and public website to ensure relevant articles and photos are added to the websites in a timely manner. Write and disseminate news, feature and sports articles describing exhibitions, award/recognition ceremonies, lectures, special events, medical care, services and technologies. Serve as writer, photographer, and assistant editor for all content used by the Department's Public Affairs section to communicate to hospital staff and patients via newspaper articles, public and restricted website posts, and social media. Formulate responses to media queries and social media, writes and edits content for various communication mediums and marketing products, designs and lays out copy to include cropping and sizing photos proportionally. Manage and operate the command area guide program designed to communicate MTF goals, objectives, missions, progress, activities, and its role in the national defense system to a variety of selected audiences such as military, civilian members, federal government senior officials, community officials, educators, and a variety of publics indifferent to the command's programs. Plan, organize, and coordinate special events, exhibits, and information to the local community on health and preventive medicine displays sponsored by the organization. Continuously evaluate customer support practices, including customer feedback in process improvement. Provide advice and assistance to all the subordinate elements of the MTF in developing story ideas.
