NSF is relocating from Arlington, VA to 2415 Eisenhower Ave. Alexandria, VA 22134 in the late summer of 2017. The new location is adjacent to the Eisenhower Ave. Metro station on the Yellow Line. There is ample parking in the area as well as several amenities nearby, such as restaurants, hotels, and shops.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) covers managerial positions above GS-15 in the Federal Service. Persons appointed to the SES are eligible for health benefits, life insurance, social security, Federal retirement and thrift savings plan coverage, and participate in the Federal leave system. Career appointees are eligible for bonuses based on performance in addition to base pay. Competitive status is not required, veteran's preference does not apply and there are no grade restrictions. New appointees to the SES are required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Final selection of career appointees requires the approval of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). OPM approval will be based on the selectee's background in the following five executive core qualification areas: (1) Leading Change, (2) Leading People, (3) Results Driven Leadership, (4) Business Acumen, and (5) Building Coalitions. These areas are incorporated in the five executive/managerial requirements for the position. Information about the leadership requirements for SES-level positions is available on the OPM website.
This position may also be filled on a one-to-three year Senior Executive Service (SES) Limited Term Appointment or on an Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignment basis. Under the provisions of the IPA, assignees remain on the payroll of his/her home institution and the institution continues to administer pay and benefits. The National Science Foundation (NSF) will reimburse the home institution for NSF's negotiated share of the costs.

Serves as the Division Director of the Division of Mathematical Sciences and as a member of the leadership team of the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences. Leads a team of program officers in managing a broad portfolio of investments in research and education in the mathematical and statistical sciences. The incumbent has managerial and oversight responsibilities for the effective use of Division staff and resources in meeting organizational goals and objectives. This includes directing the activities of the Division, assessing the needs and trends in research and education related to the Division's programs, implementing overall strategic planning, and policy setting. The Division Director supervises and provides leadership and guidance to senior level DMS staff (Deputy Division Director), DMS program officers, administrative and support personnel. The Division Director determines funding requirements, prepares and justifies budget estimates, balances program needs, allocates resources, oversees the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations, and represents NSF to relevant external groups. The Division Director fosters partnerships with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations, and the academic community.
The mission of the NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) is to support research at the frontiers of discovery in mathematical sciences, and to support education in the mathematical sciences through research involvement of trainees. DMS is responsible for programs with a total annual budget of over $230 million. These programs support research and education that expand the knowledge base of the mathematical and statistical sciences through awards to individual investigators and small groups, workforce training grants, and a portfolio of national mathematical sciences research institutes.

1. Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience, or a combination of education and equivalent experience in mathematics or statistics or a closely related field.
2. Substantial research contributions and strong evidence of scholarship in areas related to the mathematical and statistical sciences as evidenced by publications, innovative leadership in research administration, and professional leadership and awards in these technical areas.
3. Skill in balancing complex and diverse program demands and available resources in response to major advances or changing needs of science and engineering research and technology.
4. Broad understanding of universities and other institutions where research and education in science and engineering is conducted, including knowledge of grant administration and fiscal management with experience in mathematical and statistical sciences research support.
