The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking persons to fill Information Technology (IT) Specialist positions at the GS-11 and GS-12 grade levels. The selectees will perform the following duties:
Selectee will serve under one of the following specialities with the additional listed duties:
Application Software Specialization, GS-11 and GS-12
Duties include developing and testing software programs in a production environment that requires a good working knowledge of the syntax, capabilities and limitations of the programming language and operating system under which it operates.
Data Management Specialization, GS-11 and GS-12
Duties include performing logical and physical database design, monitoring, and modification for a relational database management system and writing SQL scripts to monitor performance.
Other duties as assigned for each specialty.

B. You have at least one year of specialized experience performing duties
related to the specialty for which you are applying:
For all specialties, you must also have experience drafting and editing reports; identifying products to meet customer needs; resolving complex issues; and explaining complex information clearly.
· Application Software: designing and developing software systems to be deployed in a production environment that requires a thorough knowledge of the syntax, capabilities, and limitations of a programming language, as well as responsibility for implementation of the software, and detailed knowledge of and experience with the operating system under which the software operates, including the interaction between production programs and the operating system. Your analytical approaches and results were very generally reviewed for technical and professional adequacy. Additionally, You have experience reviewing complex IT related data from multiple sources and determining relevant information; drafting, editing and disseminating written reports and status updates; maintaining relationships with customers with diverse needs; providing technical or complex information about products and services; assessing customers' needs and identifying or tailoring products and services to meet them; resolving complex or non-routine issues; explaining moderately complex ideas or information clearly; listening to others and recognizing potential miscommunications; and identifying and solving problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources.

relational database management system. This experience included performing

existing databases. Your work required knowledge and experience with database
configuration management practices including database security, backup and
recovery, and account management. Your analytical approaches and
results were very generally reviewed for technical and professional
adequacy. Additionally, You have experience reviewing complex IT related
data from multiple sources and determining relevant information; drafting,
editing and disseminating written reports and status updates; maintaining
relationships with customers with diverse needs; providing technical or complex
information about products and services; assessing customers' needs and
identifying or tailoring products and services to meet them; resolving complex
or non-routine issues; explaining moderately complex ideas or information
clearly; listening to others and recognizing potential miscommunications; and
identifying and solving problems by gathering and applying information from a
variety of materials or sources.

Your assignments regularly included developing solutions to difficult problems that did not have readily available precedents. Your work was generally reviewed only for adherence to accepted standards. Additionally, You have experience reviewing highly complex IT related data from multiple sources; drafting, editing and disseminating written reports and status updates; developing and maintaining relationships with customers with diverse needs; providing technical or complex information about products and services; anticipating and assessing customers' needs and identifying or tailoring products and/or services to meet them; ensuring that all problems, questions, or complaints are resolved; explaining, or defending complex ideas or information clearly while adapting to the audience's level of knowledge; actively listening to others and clarifying communications; anticipating problems, identifying and evaluating potential sources of information and generating alternatives to solve problems where precedents do not exist; and I keep abreast of latest technology, IT products and services.
· Data Management: serving as a database administrator for a relational database management system. This includes performing logical and physical database design, building new databases, and modifying existing databases based on an evaluation of customer requirements. Your work required establishing database configuration management policies and procedures for database installation, security, backup and recovery, and account management. You have extensive experience performing database monitoring and tuning to predict and resolve performance problems. In addition, you provided technical assistance and training to less experienced IT Specialists (Data Management). Your work was generally reviewed only for adherence to accepted standards. Additionally, You have experience reviewing highly complex IT related data from multiple sources; drafting, editing and disseminating written reports and status updates; developing and maintaining relationships with customers with diverse needs; providing technical or complex information about products and services; anticipating and assessing customers' needs and identifying or tailoring products and/or services to meet them; ensuring that all problems, questions, or complaints are resolved; explaining, or defending complex ideas or information clearly while adapting to the audience's level of knowledge; actively listening to others and clarifying communications; anticipating problems, identifying and evaluating potential sources of information and generating alternatives to solve problems where precedents do not exist; and you keep abreast of latest technology, IT products and services.
