Perform mathematical work assignments involving a segment of a scientific area, or applied field of mathematics. Apply general scientific theories, and principles of mathematics, as well as the full range of methods, procedures, and techniques, to conduct work assignments. The intern is required to make independent decisions concerning standard practices and procedures in performance of multiple tasking, to make minor modification for work efforts, and to recommend course of action for technical problems which are not covered by standard scientific practices.
Perform mathematical work in support of projects and studies assigned to higher graded mathematicians or scientists. Perform a segment of the project or study, utilizing the full range of methods, procedures, and techniques for that specific field of mathematics.
Assist higher graded mathematicians or scientists in finding solutions for problems requiring a variety of data sources and scientific disciplines. Participate in the collection and analysis of the information used by the assigned organization to perform scientific tasks.
Develop written summaries to be used by higher level mathematicians, contractors, and/or customers. Present briefings or presentations as required.
Keeps abreast of emerging techniques and professional developments to remain current in the scientific field for application to work assignments.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. You have a bachelor's or higher degree; AND B. You have 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 15 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics; AND C. You have at least 6 semester hours of statistics with a calculus prerequisite AND the following mathematics courses: Calculus I, II, and III (or Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, and Multivariate Calculus), Linear Algebra, 1 additional junior/senior level mathematics course.

level must meet 1 of the following requirements (education must be completed by 31 Aug 2017):
A. You have a
master's degree, or completed two years of progressively higher level graduate
education leading to a master's, in Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics,
Economics, Operations Research, or other field with a major emphasis in
statistics; OR B. You have at least 1 year of professional work
experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, where
your assignments were most often defined by your supervisor or by standard
operating procedures, but you used some judgment in selecting the statistical
methods and, when necessary, made minor changes to adapt the methods to
situations. Your analytical methods and results, written documents, and reports
were closely reviewed for technical and analytical adequacy. Your assignments
should indicate evidence of statistical work such as: Sample design and
estimation for finite populations, Design of data collection, processing, and
analysis methods, Applying known statistical inference techniques to real data,
& Development of new statistical methods; OR C. You have a
combination of graduate education described in "A" and experience described in
"B" that when combined meets 100% of the qualifications requirements of this
position.
